Kiev Singers

We just didn't know what to expect when we were asked to host a visit from the Kiev Singers, but what a treat it turned out to be.  Just three people, Anton on piano/organ, Olga on bandura and with a lovely soprano voice, though a much bigger range, almost down to contralto, and Ievgen, a tenor and leader of the group.

We were priviledged to host thisconcert by this Trio from the Ukraine.  The programme included sacred & clasical music in the first half and popular/folk music from the Ukraine  with accompaniment on piano/organ and the bandura, the native instrument of the Ukraine. Anton mesmerised us with his skills, and we were entranced by the whole programme, Ievgen's version of " My Way" was brilliant while the duet , with Olga, of " I the Lord of Sea and Sky" was a fantastic arrangement.

There was comedy too as Olga and Ievgen sang of a boy trying to get a caress from a reluctant girl scared of what mother might say.

The conclusion of the song.

From Left to right, Alero and Julius Nanna, with Anton, Olga and Ievgen after the concert.

The Concert was on 13th May   Admission was free but there was a collection for the singers charity, rescuing street children in Kiev. A total of £277.60 was raised and a further £160 in CD sales for their travelling expenses
