Cobham United Church Vision and Mission Statement

 “Love God, love others, serve the world in Christ’s name.”

Vision: Seeing how life can look under God.

We envisage see a church that is:-

  • Seeking God’s will, a visible, vibrant, thriving, growing fellowship, a powerful witness to the love of God, where we will grow as disciples of Christ, where we will welcome the Holy Spirit and growing by the dynamic and transformative nature of the Spirit.
  • Inclusive, joyful, loving and caring, encouraging a sense of belonging through fellowship, where no one will feels isolated or alone.
  • Committed to loving service to the community, both locally and globally, where the Kingdom of God is revealed through all we do, changing lives, sharing the gospel and, healing the broken, through generous and gracious hospitality, where we will be an active partner in God’s global mission.

 

Mission: How we will achieve our vision.

Our Church seeks to:

  • Discern God’s will through: a commitment to learning, sharing in Bible study, praying together, increasing awareness of God’s presence in worship and, recognising God’s creativity in one another and the world around us.
  • Be a loving Christian community through: Our welcome, our hospitality, our inclusiveness, our active pastoral care and support and our life together.
  • Serve the community locally and globally through: Witnessing and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, by becoming a visible presence, developing relationships in the community, working with other denominations and faith groups, engaging with local and global issues and by using our gifts and resources wisely.

 

We will fulfil the Mission by:

  • Valuing the treasures of both traditions (United Reformed and Methodist), to answer the call to become one in the body of Christ, to become united in purpose, to love and serve our fellowship and community.
  • Developing opportunities to be inclusive by effective welcome, hospitality and pastoral care.
  • Recognising our need for prayer and bible study to encourage a closer relationship with God.
  • Worshipping in a way that is alive and fresh, with an openness to experiencing God in new ways.
  • Encouraging the gifts of each person, seeking out the gifts of the Holy Spirit, with a commitment to learning so that each might grow in discipleship and become more confident in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.
  • Caring for God’s created world, locally and globally;. Engaging with issues of environmental, social, economic and political justice, by giving practical and financial assistance.
  • Finding ways of making the church more visible through our building, use of publicity, website and social media.
  • Relating to one another and to our community, exploring ways to develop relationships with other denominations and faith groups, continuing statmto look for opportunities for outreach, following the loving example of Jesus Christ so that others might come to know God’s love.
  • Continually reviewing our five-year plan to ensure we are following our Mission to achieve our Vision.
